West Virginians We Became

On June 20th, "West Virginia Day", Bob and I went to Prickett's Fort to see the reenactors. The buttons on the layout were made here.

West Virginia was formed during the Civil War, 148 years ago. "As men rising up in the majesty of our love of right and of liberty and periling our lives and our fortunes and taking a stand in defense of our rights."

Seniors Say the Darndest Things

Remember the Art Linkletter show & the segment "Kids say the darndest things"? Bob & I recall fondly Greg's pronunciation of "pinepapple" & "gurls" and Chris' sayings "Tippy top" & Upee, upee". I was hoping I could use my age as an excuse for saying dumb things like "Virginia's phone numbers have 3 extra digits" (I was confused when the website left the dashes out of the numbers). I was corrected by DH & DS1. At what age do adults become "cute" again? Which brings me to my hair: This is what happens when you get your hair cut on Saturday morning before having a full cup of coffee. After my usual 1 length trim I stopped the stylist mid way into the blow dry and said, can you cut my hair like that (pointing to a lady with a cute cut). So here I am with a "swing bob" that doesn't swing. I really am too old to worry about it! 2011

Big Band

Bob enjoys the brass sounds of the mid 1900s' bands. I enjoy getting out with him. Whenever the Mon River Band plays at outdoor concerts, we go. The Band is comprised of musicians from surrounding counties, many school band directors. This concert was held at Prickett's Fort State Park in Fairmont on the lawn as the amphitheater is being remodeled. We got a seat on the front row and Mike Roberts, the director, asked everyone to pick up their chairs and move 10 feet closer. That made it even better. That's me on the front row in the pink jacket.
This is the layout I made in 2007. On both occasions, the band played many Glen Miller songs and the ducks quacked (sang?) on the nearby river.

GASC 2011 (Carolee's Creations)

Here I am posing with Carolee from Adornit. We all know the alpha stickers but I did not know about her lovely fashions and more. The fashions are gorgeous, one of a kind and affordable! I left with a cap sleeved jacket and hope to order a lovely vintage top from the website.

And there's more, purses, jewelry, fabric, digital items in addition to the scrapbook supplies. The luggage tag frame (above) is a freebie digital item from the website.

On Facebook I learned the dress form is named "Stella".

Here is a glimpse of some of her lovely creations. (Yes, that's a piece of paper under my arm I'm about to purchase).

Here's a recent layout of mine with alpha stickers from Adornit.

GASC 2011 (Meeting Jenni Bowlin!)

After studying the vintage display of Jenni Bowlin products at the Great American Scrapbooking Convention, I was thrilled to actually meet her! After taking her picture, she suggested we get one together. That made me even happier.

Jenni's new Core'dinations line is gorgeous. "Candy Drops" & "Vintage Frames" are my favorites.

Here's a scan of a Jenni inspired layout I made in 2009. I used one of her ads to create the page of my nephew Caleb during a visit to my sister's Cleveland home.

Prom Pallery

Pre Prom is a time set aside before the event when parents and friends gather with attendees to take pictures and see other classmates in their festive ware. It is a time that Chris poses with his friends and asks us to take picture keepsakes. It's such a fun time for everyone. We wanted to call this layout "Gallery-o-girls" but since there were a few male friends in his file Bob slugged it "Pal-lery". This layout was created digitally while on the road. June 2011

Blog Giveaway Winner

Using Random.org, the winner of my giveaway was #38: Amy. . . who "loves thickers or any other alphas". Me too Amy, so I'll shop for both of us this week! There's more. . .

This is my scraproom last Wednesday when I was painting. (The real reason I paint is it forces me to clean). I filled envelopes with items from my stash of the goodies you all like and will send everyone who responded to my post some of these. . . so send me all of your snail mails. Don't worry about the postage as I am removing the packaging and do so appreciate all of your on line support. Besides, I hate big packages of items. . . I'd much rather buy one of something than a whole set.

Have a good week and I look forward to hearing from all of you.

Cinderella & Romeo

She ditched the glass slippers before the prom and didn't have to worry about being home by midnight. Chris & Jenny, lifetime friends, didn't mind that the other mingled with many friends. I can tell you for sure she was the most enchanting girl at the prom and Chris sure made a handsome prince.

Seeds

Just like the seeds of spring, our children are scattering. Chris moved into an apartment and starts college. Greg makes his wedding plans. All good, as the growth continues. Posterity, I suppose, yet sentimental.

To Dos for Chris (Album Cover)

Chris and I made this photograph after his birthday dinner this year when he turned 18. Bob was working and as usual the first week in February, it was very cold in Morgantown. We went to eat at Black Bear Restaurant in downtown Morgantown and had a good time and good food.

The album is a ring binder from 7 Gypsies.

Thank you my friends for the many comments you submitted throughout the making of this album.

The inside of the cover features a picture from Saturday's graduation. Chris asked us to photograph him with many friends. Bob's brother David stands nearby.

Be Thyself (To Dos for Chris)

This is the last page of my graduation album for Chris. I placed it inside the back cover of the album.

"The greatest comfort is the knowledge you've done your work well. You could write the book on the lists to live by. You're a good friend and know how to live your life with dignity and respect. Know son that we're here for you, are proud of you and love you so very much. Love, Mom 2011"

Be the Best You Can (To Dos for Chris)

This is page 18 of the graduation book for Chris.

"You were nervous when you ran for state office in the West Virginia Technology Student Association. You campaigned, competed and gave a speech. The crowd cheered for you and shook your hand when you won the election. You went on to place in the national competition 2 years in a row and were Vice President of the group in 2010."
