Chillin'

This is our youngest son Chris.  Bob always say he'll be the one who takes care of me when he's gone.  Chris says he wants to help us out when we're older.  Wonder if he knows he already does that making us smile with his opinions, making us proud with his persona.  Thanks for making us chill.  2013

This layout came together easily with pretty elements:  a digital film border frame by Robyn Gough, an old transparency, a chipboard design by Fab Scraps and the borders cut from the patterned paper.
The patterned paper zig zag layers (I call it a car wash design)

was inspired by Ctinak in her 3 Cheers for the Red, White and Blue layout on Scrapbook.com.  Have a great weekend!

U Minn

The Mississippi River separates the two campuses in Minneapolis and St. Paul.  I love visiting here, feeling a part of the University of Minnesota where Greg and Michelle spend their academic careers.

There is a pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the river that connects the two campuses.  Of course it's enclosed for winter travel, as Minneapolis can be frigid! Here's Bob and I at the entrance to the bridge:

I was happy to find a pack of these camera brads by Paper Studio at Hobby Lobby:

We love our kids!

Sixty at 60

This year my childhood friends and I marked our 60th birthdays. . . a great time for our graduating high school classmates to get together.  While not quite 60 of us showed, it was great to get together with those who did.  I'm convinced that even though our looks may change, our character doesn't.  After 42 years, I still love my classmates.

Some people brought memorabilia.  Here I am posing with a school newspaper with my senior picture.

Of course I took a scrapbook I made as a teenager featuring pictures of friends and family:

In the book, I paired poems or song lyrics with pictures of my loved ones.  In those days, instead of ink, I actually burned the edges of the paper with a match:

I included pressed flowers and even a butterfly:

And also pictures from magazines.  This was Olga Korbet, a Russian gymnast, I was told I resembled:

The memories just seem like yesterday and are clear when preserved on pages in time.

Michelle: The Best of Both Worlds

"She's old fashion.  She's modern.
She's a home body.  She's worldly.
She's a seamstress & and an engineer.
She's the best of both worlds."

Just a few words to describe my very talented and loving daughter-in-law.  Greg took the picture when they were with her family in Southern California.

Bob picked out this "handkerchief lady" in the gift shop of a museum we visited while in Minneapolis.  The seed embellishments are memorabilia from our trip there too:

Happy Friday my friends!

Fun at the Fort

What a great time we had visiting our son Greg and his wife Michelle in Minneapolis.  Our son Chris went with us, driving over 1000 miles to visit.  They were perfect hosts.  On Saturday we visited historic Fort Snelling.

Established in the early 1820s, Fort Snelling was built to protect fur trade.  Chris and Greg joined right in on laundry detail.  Michelle studied the costume stitchery.  Bob loved the military history through World War II.  I enjoyed being together as a family.  June 2013

The scalloped semi circles are from a Caribou Coffee napkin:

The boys left me at a Hobby Lobby while they went to Best Buy.  That's when I found the feather stencil, and it wasn't in the scrapbook section!  I knew I could make use of it.

Back to work tomorrow. . . yet I'm thriving on the family time we enjoyed this past week!

Rest

The pictures are from a beautiful cemetery in Wheeling WV called Mt. Calvary which sits along the National Highway.  The quote is from the internet:

"I want to live my life in such a way that when my body is laid to rest,
it will be a well needed rest from a live well lived,
a song well sung, a book well written,
opportunities well explored, and a love well expressed."

Thanks once again to Jennifer Shaw for the lovely Basic Grey papers and elements!

"F (ather's Day) Stop" Card for Dad

My Father's Day card for Dad using a combination of the beautiful Bo Bunny products.

"You OPENED your heart to give us a happy childhood
And will always be CLOSE to me heart."

The picture on the front is on Christmas Dad c 1957.  Dad would spend Christmas Eve through the night putting our presents together.  I'm pictured here with my older sister Terry.  There were 2 more kids and many long Christmas Eves to come.  I have few pictures of my Dad when we were kids, as he always took the pictures!  The picture on the inside is from his 90th birthday celebration.

"Focus On You" Father's Day Card

We're heading to Minneapolis later in the week where Bob will get to spend Father's Day with all his children.  We have a special surprise waiting for him.  This is the card I made.

Journaling:  "You're usually the one capturing others doing something special, making them look good.  Today the focus is on you and the love you show your family.

Thank you for keeping us safe and giving us a loving home."

"Oh Snap" Jake's Graduation Album

My nephew Jacob graduated high school last week.  This album is for him.

The chipboard album was an inexpensive one by Recollections from Michaels.  The Bo Bunny papers & stamps were perfect elements to display his senior and graduation night photos.

Have a great weekend my friends!

Fake Pass

It was so much fun having Chris go with me to the US Food Show at Stage AE in Pittsburgh.  Bob said he was my body guard.  I was proud to introduce him!

I added the tomato brads to match the pack of Heinz tomato seeds I picked up at the show.  Heinz is located in Pittsburgh.  I planted the seeds!
Thanks again to Jennifer Shaw  for the "Little Brown Dress" collection.  It is so easy to make a page when you have the entire collection!
