A Whole New World

Greg was born when this song was popular & I thought it was appropriate at this move in his adult life. But it also fits Bob & I too. As happy as we are for Greg & Michelle, a part of us hurts because our oldest son has moved on. Yet our world has expanded with new country, schools & more contact with Michelle.

Steps

Every graduation proves to be an emotional experience for the parents. When Greg graduated Kindergarten in 1993, I was still on maternity leave with Chris and recall pictures of me with my "babies" and a tear stained, yet smiling face. Moving Greg to Minnesota brings those same emotions.

I made the background paper for this page by using a digital "canvas" overlay and matching colors to those in the pictures.

Journaling: "Graduations are steps to the next level, a time to begin a new phase in your life. The next step in Greg's life will be even better than those wonderful years he leaves behind." Pictures are from his graduations (clockwise from top) 1993, 2005, 2010 and 2008.

Pre-Prom

It was a big weekend for our family with graduation and prom both on Saturday. Greg's graduation was in the afternoon and Chris went to the prom that evening. Bob worked 3 graduations that day (of course he "covered" Greg's) and was still working that evening when I went to "Pre-Prom" to photograph Chris and friends.

Chris is a junior, with plenty of senior friends. He wanted pictures with many of his friends and really liked the ones I took and the pictures I chose for the layout. He looked so grown up, all the boys and girls looked good, and it was a beautiful day for the event.

Garden Guest

I wasn't thrilled with the color of these Black Market Papers when I received them in the mail, but I loved the texture. (similar to the Crate Paper collection) They proved to be a nice match though to the beautiful deer photos Bob took last summer.

Journaling:
"She spotted Bob's shadow at the door but still stopped to get a drink out of the bird bath angel."

Met You Here

This picture of me from 1974 has been on our wall as long as I can remember. Bob took it one fall afternoon when I was hanging out with him in his T.A. office at WVU's School of Journalism. We met here one year earlier when I took the J 120 Photo Class as an elective.

Journaling:
"Morgantown is home to West Virginia University. It's a college town full of history, culture and opportunities. Our kids get a great education. Bob and I found our career niche here. We built a home by the woods, yet only a mile from town. More than anything, what I love most about Morgantown is I met you here."

Color photo is of the same Martin Hall some 36 years later.

More Special Values

As a rule, I don't buy large packs or kits of scrapbook items, but I couldn't resist the 4 packs of "Fresh Glitter" in the Special Value bin at Michaels. This $1 pack, combined with a $1 clear stamp also by Studio G, made the perfect accent for my "Met You Here" page.

Girl Scouts 1941

The best thing about girl scout camp was that the boy scout camp was just above. The picture of Mom was taken by a boy whose oxford shoe showed in the foreground. She remembers pitching their tents and digging their own latrines. Mom was 16 here and is pictured with her best friends Billie Jane Barncord and Emily Kirkwood. 1941

A Good Pair

A nice couple at work decided to have an impromptu marriage. They reserved a pavilion in a city park. The weather was miserable and the bride did not feel well. Bob and I both took cameras though neither of us conferred with the other. We made sure they had pictures of the occasion--Bob up close--and me in the background. Hoping they have as good a marriage as we do.

Special Value

I found this neat fringe trim at Michaels in their "Special Value" bins. They have many colors. I limited myself to 2 colors, even though they were 2/$1.00.

This beautiful satin ribbon was once part of a pretty camisole Rudy the dog "snacked on". I wove 2 pieces through eyelets I set in the top of the paper.
