As the Associate Director of Food Services at
Ruby Hospital in the early 1990s, there was a
team of supervisors that reported to me. Amy,
Gene, Darlene, Donnie & (later) Dena were my
friends and colleagues.
I was once told they
"would do anything for me". The best part for me
was that I enjoyed going to work. We smiled, we
joked, we worked hard.
The long catering days
were fun. When I was
pregnant with Chris & he
arrived 7 weeks before the due date, Amy met
Bob to take Greg to her house for the night.
Darlene, whose grand daughter was a preemie,
lent me bags of clothes and sent updates from
NICU. (I was in
another hospital).
After the "work reduction" in the mid 90s, Amy
went back to school and became an RN; Gene
moved to Ohio where he now works for a contract
company as a food service manager. Darlene
worked in food service at a local rehabilitation
hospital. After that
I moved to HSC, where I
was the sole manager/supervisor for many
years. I enjoyed my
work, but not always
"going to work"..
