I was the one

Even at parties where he was a guest, Bob was relied on to take pictures. It was at this same party Bob left briefly to give former Governor Arch Moore a ride to the airport. (Bob drove a 2-seat Ranchero). Yet I was the one he always came home to at the end of his shift. I love this picture.

Fall Reveal

The autumn leaves have fallen and the results of Bob's continual yard work are evident. This season he blew leaves every day the weather allowed. For a few years, Bob cut brush and weeds around the yard. He moved logs and twigs off the outer edges. He lined beds, hills and drainage areas with rocks. The grass plant seedlings Bob transplanted this year grew golden tassels like the big one.

Memories Around the World

Greg and Michelle's 2023 trip home was a memorable trip for all. They got to see many old friends and friends of the family. They spent lots of time with us, hanging out at home and going places with Bob and I. Like last year, we stayed 2 days with them in Dulles, traveling back and forth to Winchester to visit our favorite places-a favorite restaurant on Old Town Winchester plaza, Middletown shops and stopping at mills. This year we went to Locke's Mill Store (a new place for them) and we all enjoyed the state park in Paris, Virginia.

Sweet Love

For Bob's 69th birthday, he chose the Princess Restaurant in Frostburg for lunch. There we had the perfect waitress. We ate every bite of a light lunch (we shared his cole slaw), followed by a perfect piece of coconut cream pie. The trip along Rt. 40 and 68 was pretty, some of the fall colors were perfect. For dinner, I made one of his favorite items-ham loaf. We had a nice day.

Vicki

My lifelong friend Vicki is living in Florida these days and visits "home" twice a year. She and I always meet.  Throughout the year, we send each other small tokens via snail mail.  I made a pocket page to keep the kind notes and cards she sends me.  The picture is from our recent visit to High Country Creamery in Grantsville.  We always have so much fun.

Smoky then Sunny

The Canadian wildfires produced skies of smoke near our US home. Visiting Gettysburg in July, the skies were so smoky. A few weeks later, we were so happy to see a clear sunny sky on our trip through the Catoctin valley from Lancaster.

The smoke at Gettysburg was evident, but Bob reminded me that the battlefields were like that 160 years ago with cannons and black powder weapons filling the air with their smoke.  Hallowed ground.

Betty

Betty was a cashier at WVU hospital whom customers praised that "watched over them". She was always there, with spotless uniform and great attendance for nearly 40 years. Betty made the best coffee. Every afternoon she got up on her stool and reached down into the tall urns and scrubbed the sides. Not easy for anyone and she wasn't very tall.

When asked why she liked working at the Health Sciences Center she answered: "I fell in love there!".

The Parkway

In addition to the vistas, the Blue Ridge Parkway featured many of those things we love-wildlife, flowers, historic structures and a few rusted relics.

You Got Me a Lake!

It was an unstructured vacation. We knew the starting point was the southwestern Virginia line and we would drive north on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We knew the number of days and that it wasn't going to rain. The trip was perfect, starting at a 50s style lakeside lodge. When Bob asked me, "How'd I do?" I replied, "You got me a lake!" (a perfect 10).

Thank You Sister

Maybe it's the school teacher in her-but Terry often sends thank you notes. That makes me feel special and I'll always appreciate her heartfelt thankfulness. Terry is pictured here with son Steve and Granddaughter Freya.

To The Grain

I do enjoy planning this one nutrition event a year. 2023, the Life Long Learners were treated to a light lunch of soup, salad and fruit bread. Julie Mallow, our local grain and vegetable gal, stole the show. I enjoy having a few of my dietitian friends there serving. The intern Megan was so enthused about going home to her farm to grow Einkorn wheat. Bob and I are pictured at open grind day, Locke's Mill.

Celebrate 70

I didn't want to turn 70, but yesterday I woke up feeling like a kid. The sun was shining all day. Bob took me to the Eureka (ancient grains) Cafe for treats in the a.m. and an early dinner at Taziki's. A short ride, a walk to the woods, a good book, a WVU basketball win and all the happy wishes from others makes me think I didn't mind doing it again.

Love Va.

We arrived in Olde Towne Winchester at lunch time and ate in our favorite Water Street Restaurant. We messaged Greg and Michelle throughout to share remembrances of our fall trip here. We do a little country driving, then back to town to check into the motel.

On Valentine's morning, we drive to Middleburg where we sit outside to enjoy coffee and bakery item. On the way back, we take a detour to Milltown. A favorite trip with my favorite guy.

Keyed Up

Even with little snow this January, the birds were active at the feeders. On the few days the sun shined, Bob took us on a ride, enjoying the scenery and sometimes a Fro-Coke or coffee. In the evening, I played the piano and Bob listened to Sport's Line. We most enjoy our time together.
