Why I Adore You

This digi page was scrap lifted from a page by Cathy Pascual, published in the July issue of Scrapbook Trends magazine. Cathy's page was about her 7 month daughter yet was easy to adapt to a page about our teenage son. No matter what age, I'll always adore my boys!

The photo was taken in 2009 when 16 year old Chris was on his way to MHS graduation to photograph for the yearbook. The journaling was done one year later.

"Why I adore you: your sense of humor; you're trustworthy; your friends; your sweet smile; your patriotism; your dreams and goals; your conservatism; your hugs; your deep voice; your laugh."

Take a Bow

One of the best things about social networking is that you not only make new friends, but you connect with the old again.

Just a few weeks ago, my old friend Louann sent this picture of us in a dance recital when we were about 5 years old. I don't recall ever seeing this picture.

Here's the layout I created called "Take a Bow". I am on the far right, bowing!

Goosebumps at Gooseberry Falls

Greg loved reading the Goosebump Books when he was in grade school and I thought it was appropriate to use that theme in this digi layout of Gooseberry Falls.

Journaling:
"On his first weekend in Minneapolis, Greg & Michelle went north to camp. The weather was misty and cold but it was fun just to be together."

How cold's the water?

Michelle's Godmother tells me that when Michelle was young she would jump into water no matter how cold it was. I don't think she intended to get wet all over in the frigid waters of Lake Superior.

How cold's the water? The water at Lake Superior never gets above 40 degrees, even in the summer. Michelle intended to wade but slipped and got wet all over! She still has that big smile in the photo and in the family portrait with her parents. Photos by Greg on the Minnesota/ Canadian border in Native American territory. The fort is where early trades occurred between the British and the Indians.

Alive and Well @88

My Dad usually wears a NY Yankee ball cap & he started to put it on when I went to take his picture. I asked him not too as I wanted to show his young looking skin & pretty blue eyes. At 88 he says he feels pretty good. Here he is sharing an old war story with my sister & I. 2010

Lyrics are from Kenny Chesney:
"So damn easy to say that life's so hard
Everybody's got their share of battle scars
As for me I'd like to thank my lucky stars
That I'm alive, and well.

And today you know that's good enough for me
Breathin' in and out's a blessing' can't you see."

Not So Picture Perfect

Funny how layouts of me as a child qualify as "heritage" layouts. . . but since I qualify as a "senior" I guess it's alright!

This layout is from the early 1960s just before the big dance recital of the season which featured a bird theme. The girls in my group were bluebirds. Our Moms made our costumes.

Journaling:
"It was dress rehearsal and I dressed in my bluebird costume forgetting about the curlers in my hair. c1962"

Lone Star Restaurant

When I was a kid, my parents went "out to eat" one night a week. Sometimes they took the kids. Sometimes my Mom would dress up and they'd go alone. They'd find a favorite restaurant usually about an hour from home and travel there weekly for a spell, then venture somewhere else. One of the restaurants they frequented was the Lone Star on Rt. 40 near Farmington, Pa. I was tickled to find that 50 years later, it was still in business. On July 3rd we ate a late lunch there. The highlight was sharing a piece of coconut pie. 2010

Mom's Apple Pie

On our trip to Leesburg, Virginia last month we came upon a unique bakery called "Mom's Apple Pie". It was located in what looked like an old stone covered gas station and inside the ceiling was covered with pie pans! After traveling through apple country, I decided to make my own version of Apple Pie when I got home. While Chef Ramsey would kick me off of "Hell's Kitchen", my pie is nutrient dense with only 235 Calories and 5 grams of Fiber.

My fun layout is inspired by my friend Keandra at http://kiwithekreator.blogspot.com

The Sparks Still Fly

After all these years, day or night, and in any season, the sparks still fly between us. We don't have to have a holiday nor spend money nor do anything special. Here we are on a very hot July 3rd sharing a bottle of Coke on an impromptu trip to Ohiopyle. On July 4th Bob worked. He took me with him to the parade and back to the paper to put in his pictures. We went back to town to our usual spot in front of WVU's library and watched fireworks from lawn chairs. 2010

Side by Side

When I was a young teen I would sometimes sit in by driveway waiting for my older friends with cars to stop by and see me. Now my parents finally have the time to sit there and relax.

Journaling:

"Here they sit, 2 wooden chairs, in front of the personalized garage door of home. 2 chairs, waiting for their owners to join them and keep them warm.

Here they are, the perfect couple, watching their children and grandchildren, admiring their yard, enjoying each others everlasting company."
