Happy Season

This has been a happy season of my life.  Few appointments-enjoying retirement life with Bob. Together we have so much fun doing everyday things.

Fall

October is almost over yet the weather is still summer-like. We may be in a drought, yet the warm temperatures and beautiful skies were back drops to our afternoons on the deck and rides on West Virginia back roads throughout. It was great weather for a visit from Hank while Chris traveled to scenic Vermont.

Good Place

When he stopped at Biggies for lunch, Bob said "See, I take you all the good places".  Thanks for taking me all the good places.  Bob's 70th birthday. (Black and white photo from the 1970s).

48 Fun

Our wedding anniversary was marked by taking an overnight trip to Winchester, Virginia.  Bob and I enjoyed beautiful landscape and home-style cooking there with orchard fruit and artisan baked goods to take home.  So happy to spend those 48 years with him.

Uncle Buck

A young buck deer decided to spend the summer in our yard along with two does and their fawns. He became "Uncle Buck" to the smaller fawn, which followed him everywhere.

Happiest

Bob and I are happiest when we see or hear from our kids. We so enjoyed our time with Greg and Michelle when they visited the states. Morgantown is their childhood home. We took scenic rides to Frostburg, Grantsville, Yoghiogheny Dam and to Oakland. We enjoyed eating at the Princess, Englanders, and home where we had cheese, charcuterie and Mom’s stuffed flank steak. We loved our coffee breaks at Eureka, on Rt. 40 Near Ohiopyle and twice at Krispy Kreme. The kids caught lots of Pokémon. Bob and kids put together a 500 piece camera puzzle in two hours, over the course of 2 days.

71 at 71

The class of 1971 held their 53rd high school reunion in 2024, when we were 71 years of age.

So nice to see old friends from childhood-Connie Stephens, Steve Newcomb, Eva Clark and Linda Moorehead.

It was especially nice to see Janice Metz, Brenda Titchnell and Timmie Anne Gilmore (as I had not seen them for years.)

Greatest Blessings

The boys never forget their parents, calling weekly and always remembering special days. I couldn't be prouder to be Mom to these fine young accomplished men. Pictured here in 2012 at Greg's wedding, the day we gained our Daughter-in-law Michelle.

It's one of the prettiest springs ever with bluebells, 4-oclocks, lilacs, lambs wool, lilies of the valley in our woods and yard. The sweet aromas of honeysuckle and lilacs abound. Evey week brings new blooms. Bob laid 34 bags of mulch and built me a new flowerbed. I transplanted lilies of the valley and cone flowers and planted spring peas. There is more to look forward to as the season progresses.

It was a month of medical treatments for Bob and a 3 week visit from Hank. While the first walk in the morning was hard on Bob, we seemed to enjoy the walks to the woods and on the pole line. We also enjoyed the walks around the storage units at the bottom of the hill. Now time to heal.

While Hank's Dad was on a business trip to Minneapolis, Bob was Hank's #2. Hank loves his Grammy too. He so enjoyed his walks and being with us. Hank was also ecstatic to see his Dad on the return trip. We loved that Chris stayed a few nights in town too.

Camera Corner

In 1980, there were two Charleston newspapers. Bob worked the Daily Mail with Earl, Chet and Craig. The Gazette was adjacent with talent like David and Larry. It was an era of film cameras, darkrooms, scanners and driving to capture the news.

Betty

I still remember what she wore the first time I met Betty-a floral dress with an empire waist-(70s style) when she was giving a tour of the hospital kitchen to our student dietetics club. I was in awe of her ability as a renal dietitian. Betty was first a mentor who became a close friend. Betty visited me when I had my first child, went with me to Mom's when we took her to the senior center, came to my retirement reception on a bitter winter day and even came to Mom's funeral dinner. She is one of the kindest and caring people I've met. I'm lucky to be her friend.

Caleb

Younger sister Amy sends school pictures of her kids every year with Christmas cards. Here's a pocket page of my nephew Caleb, with high school graduation photos and previous year pictures stuffed in side. Caleb is a freshman at Ohio State this year.
