Boys in Dresses

Henry & Anna Fier pose with the oldest of their children Christie Jimmy & Addie. The boys dresses were likely made by my Great Grandma, a seamstress. c. 1898. Thousands of photographs from the mid and late 19th century show boys wearing dresses. This was done by doting mothers as they were the ones caring for small children. This convention sharply declined within a decade around the turn of the century.
Here's a layout of the family in 1914. (Christie, Addie & Jimmy are in the back row, 1st, 2nd and 4th as young men) Grandma probably made their suits then too! This is my 496th post. At post 500, I will select a winner for a nice giveaway. Any comments left until then is a chance to win! I appreciate your visits!

I always enjoy your heritage LO's! They are beautiful and really reflect the time. These photos are amazing! I never knew that boys wore dresses back then. Funny to think how tradition changes over time.
