DC FNCE

Attending the Food and Nutrition Conference in DC gave us a chance to act like big city folks.  We enjoyed a reception atop the National Union Building, an evening in Georgetown and an afternoon walk on the National Mall.  Bob even got to tour the Air and Space Museum.  I learned the latest in nutrition and met old colleagues-the best part is sharing with Bob.

2018

Low Country

We met at Greg and Michelle's home in Columbia and drove to Charleston, South Carolina, where we enjoyed walking through the markets and eating seafood at Hymans, a Greek share plate at Olde Town Grill, afternoon desserts and Hot Little Biscuits.  I loved cooling down in the pool.

The highlight of the trip was visiting Patriots' Point, where we toured an aircraft carrier and destroyer.  The aircraft carrier USS Yorktown carried a crew of over 3,000 and earned battle stars in World War II.  There was something for all of us in the tours, climbing up and down ladders, in and out of planes, galleys and even a space capsule.

Tower of Voices

In Shanksville, Pa., at the site of the crash of Flight 93, the "Tower of Voices" remembers 40 passengers and crew who heroically thwarted their hijackers' plans.  When finished, it will contain 40 wind chimes intended to recall the voices of the passengers and crew in their final heart-breaking calls and voicemails.

The site of the Flight 93 Memorial is not far from home-a field of honor with beautiful tributes throughout.  My favorite quote from a card under one of the honored:  "Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends."

There is a beautiful silence at the park.  After leaving we found a Lion's Club park (near a VFW) with a covered bridge, school house, a helicopter and a tank.  The park care taker was so happy to see us unpacking our picnic basket there.

Witness

For 3 days in July, 1863, 2 great armies collided on the fields at Gettysburg.  155 years later, there are still living trees that stood witness to the Civil War battles.  We've visited Gettysburg many times and always stand in reverence to the preservation of the historical events here.

We stayed here for our 42nd anniversary for 2 nights and our motel upgraded us to a suite.  We enjoyed excellent meals and travel through pretty apple country.  2018

We celebrated our 42nd anniversary September 5th.  This card is for Bob.

My life-long friend Vicki celebrated a birthday this month.  She loves fall, so it was a good time to pull out fall elements.

My farm friend Terri had a birthday too.  She and family have a farm and a store, complete with USDA meat processing and farm eggs.  She's one busy lady.

My former colleague Susan had a birthday too.  Susan now works in Preston County, which has the annual Buckwheat Festival this week.  She's another busy lady.

My niece Kaity is 30 next week.  She is a very pretty red head.  On the inside I used a Red Red Hood Stamp with a gal that has auburn hair.
